Still Not Talking

I’ve been thinking a lot lately…about what gets kids excited about talking. I find that many kids are inspired by three things: music, books or a specific toy. I wonder…if I continue to present a child with the thing they seem most excited about, will they begin to talk about it? This is the path I have chosen lately. Of course there are other goals and the notion that kids should accept non-preferred items at times so I do incorporate these as well. It’s funny how so many of the kids walk into my room and grab the same item off the shelf every single time. In the past I may have said, “no, today we are going to do something else instead.” Now I’ve been letting them know what we are going to do first, and then giving them the opportunity to play with the item after. Why not? If this what they continue to be interested in, let’s just see what happens!
